Seiko Type II
Seiko introduced the Type II Watches designation for a selection of vintage quartz timepieces, offering a more affordable alternative to its prestigious caliber series like the 38 and 48. While these watches ranged from 18,000 to 34,000 yen, they still boasted a price tag higher than many contemporary Seiko automatics. The Seiko Type II watches can be recognised by the "Type II" Text on the dial, accompanied by the "single quartz" badge.
Seiko Type II Watches were produced from 1976 to 1984, these vintage Seiko watches made a significant mark in the horological world, with their zenith occurring in 1979, showcasing a remarkable 95 models in the catalog.
Throughout their production years, the Type II watches demonstrated Seiko's commitment to precision, often featuring high-accuracy quartz movements (for the time..) and the perfect combination with either the classic white-dial we love from Seiko, or a broad range of beautiful coloured dials that we see alot from vintage seiko watches from the 70s.
Among the notable features of these vintage quartz Seiko timepieces is their day-date function, reminiscent of their predecessors in the 0923 QZ line. As the Seiko Type II watches are JDM (Japan Domestic Market) Models, all of them boast Kanji (Japanese) and English as languages on the day-wheel.
The Type II family encompassed a range of calibers, each contributing to the lineage's diversity and innovation. Notable calibers included 0903, 0923, 4316, 4336, 4622, 4623, 7546, 7559, 7122, 7123, and 8223, showcasing the breadth of Seiko's technological advancements during this era.
For enthusiasts and collectors alike, vintage Seiko Type II watches represent a blend of affordability, precision, and timeless style—a testament to Seiko's enduring legacy in the world of horology, and a perfect example of what I'd like to sell at WatchEra, because A Genuine Vintage Wristwatch doesn’t have to be expensive.
