Seiko Majesta
Seiko Majesta
The Seiko Majesta Watches were a special range of high-end watches that only were produced for a couple years, but consisted of various very interesting, technological advanced and well-produced models. Many of the calibers used were HAQ, Thermo-compensated or even using the Twin-Mode Quartz Technology.
All models can be defined by having "Majesta" found: either written on the dial or with the Majesta 'M' badge;
5S42 and 5S21 Calibers
The 5S42 and the non-HAQ 5S21 movements are quite rare and had a brief production run. Based on available information, the 5S21 was likely produced from 1987 to 1990, while the 5S42 was manufactured only in 1989, intended for the 1990 sales year. After this short-lived production, both movements were discontinued. It wasn’t until 1997 that Seiko reintroduced a smooth sweeping seconds hand with the revolutionary Grand Seiko Spring Drive.
Vintage Seiko Majesta watches are relatively affordable considering the original MSRP prices in the 1980s and are flying very under the radar nowadays, even among collectors!
